In view of this, journalists are to serve the interest of the public.         First, the media is been seen as the fourth arm of government. Out of this they perform a watchdog role, which is to say they monitor authorities. They speak on behalf of the voiceless. Responsibility : journalists has certain obligations they need to perform to make sure of whatever they put out there. That's being a good listener. To inform : one of the functions of a journalist is to inform the general public by giving official information about matters which then become news. Media houses in Ghana normally gives out information through their news bulletin in the morning, afternoon and evening or their programs. Interpretation function : one of the function of journalists is to interpret facts they present to their citizens by way of giving detailed analysis of it. News Values first of all are things or ways we use to determine news. Where news in simple term is anything unusual or odd. Therefore we have certain things we consider when determining news which then become the values. Here are some of the values benefits, proximity, conflict/controversy, prominence, oddity etc.. Benefits : people become interested to stories or news that will be of benefit to them.
